Working in London & the UK
Families usually require a minimum commitment of a year as it provides stability for the children but many nannies stay longer in their roles.
Nannies, parent helpers and tutor/governesses will be expected to entertain their charges – families appreciate someone who will keep the children physically active and creatively stimulated. As outside space can be limited it’s important to be creative with outings to the pool, park and library as well as doing indoor activities such as baking, crafts and games depending on the age of the children and the family’s preferences.
For those coming from overseas, we will provide you with additional advice and support both before and after you arrive in the UK – you can also chat to other nannies working in the UK before you leave should you wish to! We can introduce all our nannies to other nannies if required and will invite you to join our Facebook pages.
Nanny Insurance
We strongly recommend all our nannies take out Nanny Insurance – Public Liability Insurance with a minimum of £1 million cover – and we can point you in the right direction to organise this.
Driving in the UK
If you are coming to work in the UK from New Zealand and Australia you can currently drive for up to a year here on a full licence. We highly recommend that you get some practice in manual cars before you arrive as they are much more common in the UK and if you are still to take your driving test, consider using a manual car in order to obtain a full driving licence. Before your first year ends you will need to convert your licence if you are doing a driving role using this link https://www.gov.uk/exchange-nongb-driving-licence
If you aren’t ready to go now, this may be something for you to do in the future! Why not also consider doing some training to increase your chances of a great job – contact us directly for more details of courses depending on your current location
Accommodation in London
It can be hard to find somewhere to stay in London, whether it’s temporary while you attend interviews, or longer term if you are planning to work as a daily live out nanny. There is lots of information about rentals and leases along with so many other things to consider when moving to the UK on the Kiwis in London Facebook page & Aussies in London Official page which are not just for New Zealanders and Australians https://www.facebook.com/LondonKiwis/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/253800892219247
